This morning we had our first of four classes in this series at the Butler: Tunnel Books. Tunnel books, or peepshow books, are books in which cutouts allow the viewer to see through several pages to create an illusion of depth, and create a stage-like scene. Mrs. George showed us a few student samples:
The kids are very excited about this class. They planned out the books they wanted to make, and got started on the layers. Each layer, or frame, will go in one of the accordion folds of their “book”.
Here is S8, demonstrating how the sea-themed book above is put together.
Afterwards, we stopped for a quick lunch at the Mocha House. While we waited for our food, we continued with the art theme and did a community drawing on the back of our placemat.
This is a map of our (me, S8 and O7) fantasy islands. Mine is the lower left corner, O7’s is lower right, and S8’s is the top. Hers is upside down because she was sitting across from us at the table.
In the afternoon, we went to gym. O7 had her team class (2 hours). S8 and I played a game of Scrabble while we waited out the first hour, then she got to go out on the floor with her class for the second hour.
