Today the girls attended Zoo School Wednesday at the Akron Zoo. The topic was desert animals.
We normally think of deserts as being hot, but there is such a thing as a cold desert, too. Antarctica is a good example of a cold desert.
They saw the Galapagos tortoises, the leopard gecko, and the rose-haired tarantula (named, appropriately, Rose).
They also saw and touched a turtle named Little One.
They made stand-up picture cards of deserts. Some kids drew theirs, and others glued pictures onto the cards.
Some of the topics discussed were: growing cacti, being sandy, less than 10″ of precipitation a year, being hot.
